They have been getting most schools aligned this year but seems it will apply to all schools next year. Better make sure you get your flights booked early to get out of here when holidays are approaching.

Our school (ACS) still not aligned. We come back on August 21. Way too soon! Maybe this applies to only Emerati public and private schools?

Article in The National states that it applies to all schools that are not on the Asian curriculum. Abu Dhabi announced these changes last year and Dubai have now followed.

Moms, before calling the school, this does not apply to ACS! Our calendar has been approved by ADEC and we will definately be starting as per our published school calendar. We have been inundated with calls this morning so please spread the word.

Hi
I have just been in contact with Al Raha and they are awaiting approval for their calendar dates from Ministry...so may be same as ACS?

ADEC has approved the ACS 2012-23 calendar. 100% sure! Good luck Al Raha. We must all remenber that a school calendar should be built around what works best for our kids academically, not what works best when planning our holidays.

Last year ADEC had approved the calendar at BSAK and the dates were distributed to parents. ADEC then introduced the new school holidays so BSAK had to change the dates as per the instructions from ADEC. Luckily they weren't very different.

I think ACS managed to get exemption last year [for this academic year] so hopefully you will do this time too. I don't think you had the 2 week Spring break that ADEC had mandated?

GEMS says they have recently checked with ADEC twice, and the confirmed start date is Aug. 26. Doesn't help with the holiday madness though. Tickets will be sky high!

You haven't booked your airfares yet? You won't avoid the madness. It is upon you.....

June 27th/28th is when most of the schools break up (except ACS of course).

Thats cause BCAD started a week late :)
And by the calendar,it appears that next year all schools will synchronise around this date..

But BCAD mentions start date of Sept 5? Or do I have an outdated calendar?

Well that is the $64 million question. What date do we all go back now that Gulf News have muddied the waters? Who knows.

Is there anybody on this board who is on the ADEC Communication Planning committee....... :biggrin2:

Well, the date on the website is correct as of now, but yesterday our class reps had a meeting with the head of pre- prep and apparently, it is up for discussion due to the announcement by ADEC.
Our Class rep said they( the school) will send out an email once ADEC gives the go-ahead.

This is so typical for this place isn't it. The powers that be come up with a "great" plan but don't tell the relevant people that need to know. hehe Minor technicality...hehe

From what I understand, ADEC aligned the winter break and the spring breaks this year but gave some schools flexibility as to when the school year actually started and ended as some curriculums have a need to be more closely aligned with tests/ things out of the school's control. So it's the spring break and Christmas tickets that may really get expensive if all the rest of the schools are on those schedules, too!
