Oh man, I wrote such a long response to this but then my internet crashed and I lost it all, so here it is in a nutshell.....

I've been to Dhaka many times and was so appauled by the poverty there. You cannot imagine it unless you see it with your own eyes. This girl is amazing! She has made such a huge difference to the lives of so many. Shows what you can achieve if you get of your lazy icon_butt.gif !

I posted a while ago asking for donations for their thrift shop but nobody responded so hopefully some ADW newbies might be more chartitable and have something at home they no longer need. I'm happy to coordinate any ADW donations as my friend is involved in running the shop.

And how about sponsoring kids as gift for birthdays etc? It's a gift with a bit more soul than a Barbie or a Playstation game, especially if you can encourage the recipient to research the project and see what they can do to help. I've given sponsorships to some of my friends kids and at first they look at me as if I'm bats##t crazy but once they see what life in Dhaka is like and compare it to their own they get really interested.

Just a suggestion, take it or leave it. Would hate anyone to acuse me of "pontificating" Prayer.gif but I just think that we all live here like such princesses with our rosy tinted glasses on so it's nice to try to give something back.

Well done Smooth as Silk for trying to bring this really worthwhile cause to peoples attention!

The Dhaka Project Thrift Shop is on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. If anyone has anything to donate then I'm happy to take it for you. Please PM me and we can take it from there.

Thaks for pinning this!!

I have an idea........It only costs 3000 dirhams to build a house for a family, with basic furnishings and utensils etc. Why don't we, as the women of Abu Dhabi, try to raise the money together to build a house in our name?

We could take donations at the coffee mornings. I'm up for having a yard sale at my place if anyone's interested or why don't we get our kids car washing?

What do you all think?

I finally made it home, and I think this project is an excellent idea. I will make a donation page through paypal for our group of ladies. I say why stop at one house.

Also, perhaps we should have a drop off place in Abu Dhabi so it's convenient for all to participate. I am in KCB and would gladly help with the drop off. We also fly there so if we can get organized in Abu Dhabi I am sure we can pull some sponsors together to for say airline and hotel needs there.

Cheers,
TG

Dear TG;

This is really good news. THANK YOU! Clap-Hands.gif

After Charlie A-M mentioned the shops to collect 2nd hand stuff in Dubai, immediately came to my mind doing something similar here...but left that that idea behind cause i live in a apartment, and i am not even a resident yet so...

Anyway, I am more then happy to help...

Hi guys,

Very intresting threads! Well done SAS and C A-M!

I go to Mums & Bumps and will send an email out to the girls to get out-grown baby clothes, nappys etc (my DH went mad stocking up with pampers bless him and I've got 7 yes 7 packs of size 2 nappys that Owen didn't get through - they're yours!!)

Also, as I'm setting up a dress agency and loads of people are bring clothes my way. We can't take them all but I'm happy to promote the project in my studio and hopefully be able to get donations from my clients.
